Spelling Dachshund

I learned, and now I’m going to teach you! Dachshund is a German word that we Americans sometimes struggle to spell. As a result, the breed is referred to by various names such as Doxie, Dotson, dashchound, weenie dog, wiener (remember the rule “i before e except after c”), sausage dog, hot-dog, Doxie, Dash-hound, Dachund, and the list goes on. A helpful trick to remember is that “ch” sounds like “sh,” and “c” comes before “s.” I hope that helps you with spelling Dachshunds.
